ZonPrep Security Upgrades: How We Keep Your Inventory Safe

Cameras, access-controlled storage cages, door alarms, sealed transfers and visitor logs: the security upgrades protecting your inventory at ZonPrep.

Two trailers with Nvidia logos were stolen from a warehouse in California recently. The thieves were likely hoping for AI chips, but they got 40,000lbs of sand instead.

It’s a funny story, but also a cautionary tale. The thieves chose their target based on the truck’s appearance, plus a hand lock that could be forced open.

Stories like this remind us to always be vigilant. ZonPrep has completed another series of security upgrades across its facilities, including expanded camera coverage, electronic access controls for storage areas, additional alarms and intrusion detection, and physical privacy improvements.

We have also implemented sealed transfers between warehouses with seal checks on arrival, digital visitor logging, and randomized exit checks to help protect customer inventory. On the workplace safety side, we have started a safety committee to share practical guidance with our teams. These investments support the safety of our associates and the security of the products we handle.

Here are a few improvements we wanted to share.

Expanded camera coverage

We installed additional cameras and expanded coverage of shipping and receiving entrances, designated product storage, and emergency exits. This gives our team more visibility into activity in areas where people enter and inventory is handled.

Electronic access control for designated storage

We installed access-control readers on designated customer product storage cages at the facilities. These controls restrict entry to protected storage areas and add another layer of protection for customer inventory.

Additional door alarms and intrusion detection

We added dock-door contact sensors, motion detection for overhead doors and warehouse windows, and local alarm sounders on emergency exits. These additions provide alerts when protected doors are opened or activity is detected.

Physical security and privacy improvements

We installed privacy mesh on shipping and receiving entrance cages and tinted warehouse windows to limit outside visibility into operations. We also completed door-lock hardware upgrades and procedures for securing overhead doors after hours or when not in use.

Sealed inventory transfers between facilities

Shuttle trailers moving goods between the two warehouses are sealed, and receiving staff validate the seals on arrival. Checking the seal at the destination helps identify possible tampering during the transfer.

Digital visitor registration and loss prevention

We introduced digital visitor check-in and visitor logs, alongside a kiosk that selects associates for randomized exit bag checks. The completed security tracker also records the employee search policy as implemented.

Associate safety and ongoing practices

Safety committee

We started a safety committee to give workplace safety dedicated attention. The safety team has a shared channel for reporting hazards, discussing improvements, and coordinating action.

Forklift inspection review

Forklift inspection sheets are collected and reviewed daily, with an additional check at the end of the week. Keeping these records gives supervisors a documented process for reviewing equipment inspections.

Safety communication and training

The team shares guidance on safe movement around forklifts, appropriate work clothing and footwear, clear walkways, and preventing slips and trips. We have also rolled out a security framework acknowledgement and cybersecurity training with completion certificates.

Wrapping up: Keeping your inventory and operations safe

The ZonPrep team is always looking for ways to improve, and that includes preventing risks and protecting your and your customer experience.
